What This Does

Explore lets you open any table in a live pivot view, drag fields around to group and aggregate your data, and instantly see the result as a table or a chart. When you find something worth keeping, you can save it as a dashboard, hand it off to a Flow, or download it for a spreadsheet. It is the fastest way to go from “I wonder what this data says” to a shareable answer.

When to Use This

  • You want a quick answer from a table without building a full Flow first.
  • You need to group and total your data (sales by region, revenue by month) and see it as a pivot.
  • You want to try a few breakdowns and chart types before committing to a layout.
  • You found a useful view and want to turn it into a dashboard tile, a repeatable Flow, or a spreadsheet export.

Step-by-Step Guide

Open a table and click Explore Data

Open any table from your Data area or from a project. On the table preview, click the Explore Data button. Go Fig opens a full-screen pivot view on top of your data so you can start slicing right away.

Drag fields into the buckets to shape your view

The pivot view gives you a field list on the left and four buckets to drop fields into:
  • Rows - the categories to group by down the side (for example, Region or Product).
  • Columns - a second breakdown across the top, which also becomes the series in a chart.
  • Values - the numbers to aggregate (sum, average, count, and so on). You can also add a calculated field here.
  • Filters - conditions that narrow which rows are included.
Drag a field from the list into any bucket, and the result updates as you go. Rearrange or remove fields anytime to test a different cut of the data.

Switch between the data table and a chart

Use the Configure PivotTable view to set up your grouping, and switch to Build Chart to turn the same numbers into a visual. Pick a chart type and adjust the visual settings until it reads clearly. The Data Preview shows the aggregated table behind the chart at any time.

Save your view, or download it

When the view says what you want, use the Save button to choose where it goes (covered below), or download the data straight from the preview.

Where Your View Can Go

Once you have a pivot or chart you like, the Save button gives you a few options.

Turn it into a dashboard

  • Add to existing Board - pick a board you already have, and your view is added as a new tile.
  • Create new Board - choose a project, and Go Fig starts a fresh board with your view as the first tile.
Either way you land on the board in edit mode, ready to arrange, resize, or add more tiles. For more on boards, see Building Dashboards.

Turn it into a Flow

Choose Create new Flow to hand your pivot off to a full Flow. Go Fig wires up the source table, a Transform that reproduces your grouping and aggregation, and the chart, so you can keep building: add more steps, join in other sources, schedule it, or save the results as a Virtual Table. Saving from the Data Preview creates a Flow built around the pivot table itself. Saving from the chart view carries your chart configuration along too. Pick whichever matches what you want to keep working on.

Download for a spreadsheet

On the Data Preview, click the download button to save the aggregated data as a CSV, which opens directly in Excel or Google Sheets. Smaller results download right away. For very large results, Go Fig prepares the file in the background and emails you a download link when it is ready.

Tips and Best Practices

Start broad, then narrow. Drop one field into Rows and one number into Values first to confirm the totals look right, then add a Columns breakdown or a Filter to dig deeper.
Explore is your sketchpad. It is meant for fast, throwaway experimentation. When a view earns its keep, save it as a Board tile or a Flow so it sticks around and stays up to date.
The pivot view you open from Explore is temporary. If you close it without saving to a Board or Flow, the view is discarded. Your underlying table is never changed.
