Overview

Go Fig exposes your data as tools to AI agents through MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard supported by Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and most modern AI clients. Once connected, you can ask your agent to search tables, pull query results, build Flows and Boards, schedule refreshes, and, if enabled, create records directly in your accounting system.
Your Go Fig admin must enable MCP access for your organization before you can connect. See Enable MCP for your organization.

What you’ll need

Go Fig MCP URL

https://app.gofig.ai/api/mcp/http/

Authentication

OAuth (recommended) or API key
  • OAuth: a browser window opens for login and tokens refresh automatically. Best for most users.
  • API key: a long-lived header credential issued by your admin. Best for developer tools and automation.

Claude

Add Go Fig once in your Claude settings and it’s available everywhere you use Claude: Claude.ai (web), Claude Desktop, and Claude for Excel.
1

Open Claude connector settings

Go to claude.ai/settings/connectors and click Add custom connector.
2

Add Go Fig

  • Name: Go Fig
  • Server URL: https://app.gofig.ai/api/mcp/http/
Click Add.
3

Log in to Go Fig

A browser window opens for Go Fig login. Sign in with your Go Fig credentials. Tokens refresh automatically.
4

Try it out

In any Claude surface (web, Desktop, or Excel), ask: “List my organizations” to verify the connection.
For the Excel-specific walkthrough (pulling QuickBooks data into a workbook and pushing journal entries back), see Using Go Fig with Claude for Excel.

Claude Code

Claude Code is a separate CLI that doesn’t pick up Claude.ai connector settings. Add it directly with an admin-issued API key:
1

Add the MCP server

Replace YOUR_KEY_HERE with the API key your admin provided.
2

Restart your session

Tools load at session startup. Start a new session then try: “List my organizations.”

ChatGPT

ChatGPT Pro, Team, and Enterprise support custom MCP connectors.
1

Open ChatGPT connector settings

In ChatGPT, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
2

Add Go Fig

  • Server URL: https://app.gofig.ai/api/mcp/http/
  • Authentication: OAuth
3

A browser window opens. Log in with your Go Fig credentials. Tokens refresh automatically.
Custom MCP connector support in ChatGPT is rolling out across plan tiers so check OpenAI’s connector documentation if the option isn’t visible.

Gemini

Google’s Gemini supports MCP tools through Agent Builder and compatible clients.
1

Open your Gemini agent configuration

In Google AI Studio or Agent Builder, open the agent you want to connect Go Fig to.
2

Add Go Fig as an MCP tool

  • Server URL: https://app.gofig.ai/api/mcp/http/
  • Authentication: OAuth or API key
3

Authorize

Complete the OAuth flow with your Go Fig account.

Other MCP clients

Any MCP-compatible client (Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, and others) can connect to Go Fig using the same URL and auth patterns above. Consult your client’s MCP server documentation then point it at:
Use OAuth for browser-based flows or API key (Authorization: Api-Key YOUR_KEY) for headless clients.

What you can do

Be specific about what you want. Include table names, field names, and date ranges when you know them. Agents search your tables to find the right data, but specific names get faster results.

Troubleshooting

Your organization’s admin needs to enable MCP access. Point them to Enable MCP for your organization.
Most MCP clients load tools at session startup only. If you added the server mid-session, restart the client (or the CLI session). In Claude Code, verify with claude mcp list. You should see gofig: ... - Connected.
  • OAuth clients (Claude for Excel, ChatGPT, Gemini): Re-run the OAuth flow. For Claude Desktop, run gofig-mcp auth --logout then gofig-mcp auth.
  • API key clients (Claude Code): Verify the key is correct and hasn’t expired (90-day default). Ask your admin to issue a new one if needed.
Start from the top of the navigation chain: ask the agent to “List my organizations” first then drill down into projects and tables. Stale entity IDs from a previous session can cause empty results.
Accounting write operations require three settings to be enabled: (1) organization-level MCP access, (2) organization-level AI Write-Back, (3) per-connector MCP access on the QuickBooks connector. See QuickBooks.
