What this enables

With Go Fig connected to Claude for Excel, you can work with your accounting data directly in a spreadsheet:
  • Pull data from QuickBooks into Excel tabs without leaving the workbook
  • Build reports, reconcile, and forecast using familiar spreadsheet tools
  • Push updates back: create journal entries, bills, invoices, and more directly in QuickBooks
Claude keeps a hidden goFigMeta tab in your workbook that tracks which Flows power each data tab. Say “Refresh all my data” and Claude knows exactly what to re-run.

Prerequisites

Before you start, check off the following:

Go Fig MCP connector configured

Add Go Fig as a custom connector in Claude (one-time setup)

Org-level MCP enabled

Your admin has turned on MCP access (and AI Write-Back for push-back)

QuickBooks connector connected

Your QBO data is syncing to Go Fig

Configure MCP access for your connectors

Turn on MCP access for each connector you want AI agents to use (e.g., QuickBooks)

Example: Invoices in, journal entries out

Here’s an end-to-end flow starting from a blank workbook.
1

Open a blank workbook and launch Claude

Open Excel and start with a blank workbook. Launch the Claude sidebar with Ctrl+Alt+C (or open it from the ribbon).
2

Pull invoice transactions from QuickBooks

In the Claude sidebar, ask:
“Pull all invoice transactions from QuickBooks for the last 90 days.”
Claude uses Go Fig’s accounting tools to fetch invoices directly from QuickBooks and lays them out in a new sheet.
3

Review and prepare journal entries

Add a column for Journal Entry Date next to the invoice data. Fill in the dates you want the journal entries posted on.
4

Ask Claude to create the journal entries in QuickBooks

Highlight the data (or just ask Claude):
“Create journal entries in QuickBooks for the selected rows, using the Journal Entry Date column as the posting date.”
Claude walks through the rows, calls the Go Fig accounting tool for each, and writes the journal entries back to QuickBooks.
5

Confirm writes

Every write operation is shown to you before execution. Review the preview and approve. Claude only posts to QuickBooks after you confirm.
Writes land in your real QuickBooks company. Double-check dates, amounts, and accounts before confirming. Use a QuickBooks sandbox for practice runs if you’re new to the flow.

Other things you can do from Excel

For bulk operations (bills, invoices, customers), start with the data in a spreadsheet. Claude maps each row to a QuickBooks entity and issues them as a batch, much faster than one-by-one entry in QuickBooks’ UI.

Troubleshooting

Writes require all three toggles enabled: organization MCP access, organization AI Write-Back, and MCP access on the QuickBooks connector. See QuickBooks.
Ask Claude to “Refresh my QuickBooks data” to trigger a sync. If the data is still stale, check the connector’s health on the Data page in Go Fig.
Make sure the Go Fig custom connector is added in Claude AI Settings and you’ve logged in. If tools are still missing, close and reopen Excel to reload the connector.
